This incredible image comes from the cover of an authentic and rare 1915 edition of "The Scarecrow of Oz." The book is the 9th book in Frank L. Baum's original 14 book Oz series. A true piece of Wizard of Oz history!
In Baum's 1900 children's novel, "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz," the living scarecrow encounters Dorothy Gale in a field in the Munchkin Country while she is on her way to the Emerald City. In the well-known 1939 film version, the Scarecrow was played, most memorably, by Ray Bolger. In Gregory Maguire's 1995 revisionist novel, "Wicked," the Scarecrow was Fiyero Tigelaar, the love interest of Elphaba. The Scarecrow is made a more prominent character in the Broadway musical adaptation of Wicked, where he is revealed to be the remnants of Fiyero after he was captured by the Wizard's officials and made impervious to injury by Elphaba's incomplete spell. In the forthcoming movie adaptation of the musical, the part will be played by Jonathan Bailey (Bridgerton).
